The aim of the project is to provide a comprehensive support structure for adults with borderline intellectual functioning and intellectual impairment. It was initiated as a result of the partnership and shared values of the private Foundation Can Gelabert and the acidH in 2012.
It is a place for psychosocial intervention with various educational and leisure activities, such as workshops as well as playful activities and capacity-building, aimed at increasing their personal independence and strengthening their cognitive, motor and social abilities. By this, their social network is strengthened and their possible professional integration is promoted.
The strength of the project is the awareness that the users of the Centre are not regarded as passive recipients of the services and activities, but as active protagonists that adapt the activities to their individual needs and interests. Thus, specific workshops and solutions for their problems can be found together. In doing so, we want to contribute to improving their quality of life and self-esteem as much as possible.
Espai Social Can Gelabert currently has 57 users.
